52 Week Challenge - Make a Triangle

Well...I'm back to some old pictures for this challenge! Not only that but these are some fun pictures that I look at now and think..."why am I just standing there taking pictures?" lol Liane was a very active little girl and so excited about having a baby sister. Andrea was just taking too long to start running around with her, so here she's just being a helpful big sister! I only had the two pictures so I added a piece of embossed cardstock to form the triangle. Then I remembered the embellishment, Mary! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Represent

Can you believe this is the final Scripture word for 2010? Guess what? Patter's starting a new Scripture Challenge on January 2, 2011! YAY!! It's called the ABC Scripture Challenge for 2011 and we'll be working our way through the alphabet! I am so excited to be continuing with this! I must say that I have been thoroughly BLESSED during this entire challenge! There is nothing that compares with opening the Bible and receiving a word from God! I would like to encourage all of you to join in for 2011. I've added a button here on my blog. Just click on it and you'll be taken to Patter's site where you'll find all the information!
Okay...on to today's word which is "represent". As followers of Christ we are His representatives. Our purpose is to show Jesus Christ and His love to others through our words, our actions, and in everything we do. This is not only how we honour the Lord, but how we let others know about how wonderful He is!  He is just too good to not be shared with others! :o)

52 Week Challenge - Photo Corners & Merry Christmas!!

I did not think I would get this challenge done on time! Whew!! I was a bit ahead of schedule and my company will be here any minute...but I did it! This picture is from quite a number of years ago and my tree has changed quite a bit since then...even the actual tree has changed! lol
I am also using this challenge to wish all of you a VERY JOYFUL CHRISTMAS!! I thank you for stopping by and visiting my little blog! I appreciate each and every one of you! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Worth

As I was looking through the Bible for verses that contained the word "worth", I knew this one in Matthew was the one for my page. It's always been a favorite...but I think I say that every time, don't I? lol God created His sweet little sparrows, and He loves and cares for each and every one of them. Yet each one of us are worth more to Him than MANY sparrows!  If He knows when a sparrow falls to the ground, He certainly know what's happening with us in our lives! As often happens with my favorite verses, this one also brought a wonderful old song to mind. It's called "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and it's based on these verses in Matthew. I'm including the lyrics for you here. It's just the song I need to be singing these days! :o)

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Playing in Paradise Sketch Challenge #03

I am very excited about today's post! Last month, after participating in the Sketch Challenge #02, I was chosen as the Paradise Player! That was lots of fun! Since I was the Paradise Player, I was invited to play along again this month. Now here's the exciting part! The sketches for this month were actually designed by Becky Fleck herself! I really love Becky's work and totally loved these sketches she did! There's more! There will be a random draw, from those that participate, for a chance to win a copy of Becky's book Scrapbook Page Maps 2. You can find all the details about Becky and her book HERE. The link to the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog and where to enter your sketches can be found HERE.
Here is the layout sketch followed by my layout:

Here is the card sketch followed by my card:

This shows the detail of the card.

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Use an Envelope on Your Page

These pictures are of a beautiful bouquet of roses that my sweet husband gave me a little while ago. I thought they were the perfect photos to work with for this challenge. I needed an envelope for the journaling on my this one...it got really mushy!lol This page really looks "Valentiney", doesn't it? Perhaps I've been inspired by all the new collections that have just been released! :o)

52 Week Challenge - Some Things Old / Some Things New

For this challenge we were supposed to use a variety of our oldest supplies and our newest supplies.
Old supplies:  rub-ons (originally purchased and used years ago for decorative painting and wood crafts), and decorative scissors. New supplies: flower stamp used for background stamping, new daffodil from Sarah, new leaf sizzlit, and flowers made from new Martha Stewart Hydrangea punch.

I just LOVE this picture! When my girls were both home in November I showed it to them and they had so much fun...each teasing the other about the way they looked in it! lol I just think they're both adorable! I guess the photo itself could be one of the old things since it's another one that's over twenty years old. So I   warned my girls that this photo would be one of the next ones I would play with! You have to click on it to get a good look...it's priceless...at least to a Mother! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Punch Art

This challenge had me a little bit stressed! I don't have a huge number of punches and I really couldn't come up with any kind of "plan". So I put all my punches in front of me and this is what happened! You may have noticed that there isn't a photo on my page. I decided that this is going to be the Title Page of my album that will house photos of my Snowman Collection. The only circle punch I have is the 1" one that I used for the head. The body is made up of squares that I used a corner rounder punch on. The top hat is an arrow punch, the mittens are a funky heart, and the carrot nose is a teardrop. For the boots I used the file tab punch, cut it in half and then rounded the cut corner. The eyes are the teeny, tiny 1/16th" punch. The others are rather obvious. Maybe I have more punches than I thought! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Help

It's so interesting that this is the Scripture Challenge word at this time! Since God has His hand in this...I'm going to go ahead and open up to you here. I can't tell you how many times I've cried out for help in the last few months. Some of you already know that I've been having some struggles with pain lately. Now pain is not a new thing to me but it had been under control for a number of years. Something has changed recently and the control is GONE! So I'm going through a period of "readjustment"! lol Now...I want you to understand that I'm not talking about this because I want anyone to feel sorry for me or anything like that, okay? Believe me when I say my life is VERY GOOD! However, my pain is extreme and frequent right now and I am often asked how I manage to do the things I do. I want to share that with you now. When my first conscious thought of the day is HELP! at 3:00 a.m. because the migraine has woken me...the Lord is the one who hears my cry! He is gracious and loving and He alone can give me the strength to get through the day! He brings me JOY in the midst of the pain! He has gifted me with the most LOVING and husband a girl could have and two very entertaining daughters who always bring me lots of LAUGHTER! He has also sent me so many wonderful friends, who bring me ENCOURAGEMENT through lovely visits to my blog and wonderful emails! He is my God; He will strengthen me and help me; and I will carry on, one day at a time! If you're going through a tough time and need some help, consider calling on the Lord! I know I couldn't do it without Him! :o)

Playing in Paradise Sketch Challenge #02

To some of you the colors and theme of this layout may look a little bit familiar. I did a similar one back in October for my first sketch challenge. Would you believe that shop still hasn't announced a winner?! So I've moved on to a new one! lol Scrapbooker's Paradise Blog has a monthly sketch challenge. You can find the details HERE For this one I decided to make the companion page to the last layout. I couldn't do the exact sketch since I only had these two pictures to work with, but I hope it's close enough! I've discovered that I really enjoy working from a sketch. I have a few days left so maybe I'll even get to the card sketch yet...yes, I said another card! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Flourishes

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends! I hope you're all having a wonderful time of celebration! In Canada, we had our official Thanksgiving holiday in October. However, for me personally, EVERY day is one of gratitude and thankfulness, and I am celebrating right along with you! So in honor of today, I chose this picture of my "Miracle Angel" for my challenge this week. Each and every day, we are surrounded by miracles, and that's something I'm very thankful for! This is a little angel doll that I designed a few years ago. I didn't go too crazy with my flourishes. I used my Stampin' Up Baroque Border wheel to fill my page with flourishes for the background. Then I took three raw chipboard pieces, inked them in black and used several coats of UTEE on them. Then I added some bead flourishes. That's about all I had room for. I framed my photo with the same lace I used to trim the angel's dress, and added the beads on top. Then I added some flowers I made. Just so you know...I thank God daily for all of you...MY DEAR FRIENDS!! :o)

Sarah's Cards

My dear friend Sarah makes so many lovely things! She's inspired me to make quite a few of them myself! She recently made a really cute butterfly card. I had asked her how she did it and she was sweet enough to show me exactly how in a wonderful YouTube tutorial. You can find the video HERE and you can find Sarah's lovely Blog HERE. I didn't have that wonderful butterfly punch, so I used my Slice to cut out my butterfly shape. Using the Slice opens it up to all kinds of possibilities! I meant to have this card up a few days ago, so since it took me so long...I have two cards to show you! They are so much fun to make! Thanks again Sarah! :o)
Inside of cards read as follows:
 Happiness...is my wish for you!
Hope...your day is filled with JOY!

I DID IT!!

Yes, I really did it!! I made a card! I saw it on a blog and I kind of copied it...kind of! lol I didn't have any of the things she had so that's why it's only "kind of" copied! I don't own any of those fantastic Spellbinder dies...which I love and are so gorgeous on cards. So I cut a scalloped circle with my Slice and then used my Big Bite to punch holes in it. I also don't have any of those gorgeous pearly flourishes. However, I did just pick up some long strips in a clearance bin. So I cut them all apart and tried to arrange them appropriately. I'm not that happy with all of them...but I'll get better with practice, right? Tomorrow I hope to make another card in honor of  my friend Sarah. She did a tutorial for me so I know just what to do...I hope! haha :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Make a Grid of 9 Squares

I spent some time pondering what I was going to do for this particular challenge. Then yesterday we had quite a blizzard blow through! This morning it was -24 Celcius! For those of you that deal with Fahrenheit...lets just say that it's cold and leave it at that! lol I didn't even bother to look into the windchill because I'm not going anywhere! Anyways...the weather situation helped me decide what I wanted to use for my challenge. These pictures were taken in my neighbor's garden. She has moved into the Nursing Home now, and her house has sold. So this page is a lovely memory of a wonderful neighbor! :o)
Photos were taken a few years ago before I got my nice camera!

Scripture Challenge - Assurance

What comes  to your mind when you hear the word "ASSURANCE"? What immediately comes to my mind is the wonderful old hymn written by Fanny Crosby called "Blessed Assurance"! I've been singing it ever since Patter gave us our latest Scripture word! I love that hymn! It also brings special memories of my Dad to mind,  as all hymns do, and as I've shared previously with all of you. This was a song he sang often! I'd like to share the first verse of the song with you here. I just couldn't find room for it on my six inch page! It goes like this:

Blessed assurance Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long;
This is my story, this my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long!

Well...this is my story! I have assurance that Jesus is mine. He has been since the day I accepted Him as my Saviour when I was very young. He has never let me down and He never will!
He is always there for me!
He promised...He is faithful...Guess what?
This can be your story too! :o)

JOY Tags

It seems like it's been a while since I've had a new crafty post...although I know it hasn't been that long! I actually haven't done anything new in the last week. I found this picture in my files and thought I would share it with you. Just over a year ago I had come across an online crop challenge thingy! Yes, that was the official name of it! lol They had a challenge to use shipping tags and Tim Holtz Distress Inks to make a halloween tag. Well...those of you that follow my blog may have noticed that I don't "do" halloween! So I asked if I could do Christmas instead. It was no problem! So here are the tags I made. This was my a bunch of firsts for me. First time with shipping tags, distress inks, masks, & distress crackle paint.  Hopefully I'll be back to new work in a day or two! :o)

My Wintery Wonderland

These pictures were actually taken two days ago. Shortly after I took them the sun did peep out for a bit and it was GORGEOUS!! All the snow came off the trees right away then, of course! These pictures show how heavy and wet the snow was...the kind of slushy snow that makes your feet wet ALL DAY!! Unless your smart and stay inside crafting where it's dry and warm! :o)

My favorite tree was so sad!

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - 3, 5 or 7 Chipboard Frames

Well...I managed to fit 5 chipboard frames on my 8" page! I used my Sizzix "Frame, Heart" die. I just love these pictures of my little girls! Can you believe these pictures are twenty years old? I can't! lol I'm going to be together with BOTH of my "babies" next weekend. I'll take some updated photos and prove to you that they're all grown up! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Stamped Borders

I used three different Stampin' Up stamps to create my border; a vine, a flower and a vase stamp turned sideways. I didn't have a picture in mind at first but decided I would use this one with the bird on the birdhouse. My husband always says the same thing when he sees this picture..."too bad the greenhouse looks so ugly!" So when I showed him I was using this picture, guess what he said? lol So I thought I would try to hide some of it for him. I inked some vines from a new Sizzix die and adhered them around the photo. So now that I have made you all look closely at the greenhouse...have I disguised it well enough? :o)

Birds are most welcome in my yard and I'm always happy to see a little chickadee!

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Use Sewing Notions To Embellish

I was excited about this challenge because I've been sewing much longer than I've been scrapbooking...so guess which stash is bigger? lol Although the scrapping stash is catching up fast! The flowers are made of sewing patterns. The bling on the heart are a actually nail head studs that I found in the drawer in my sewing room. As for the design, I was obviously inspired by ALL the snow we got...and we got LOTS of it! It definitely put me in the seasonal mood! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Serve

WOOHOO!! It's snowing outside!! It's the perfect day to spend indoors working on a Scripture Challenge page! Our word this time is "Serve" and that's a word that's loaded with goodness! I've even managed to fit three verses on my page this time around! The first verse tells us how we should each use the gifts we have been given to serve others. Okay...the first issue is figuring out what our gift is, right? Then once we've got that figured out...we need to find a way to put that gift to use...in the service of others. Now if we move on to the second verse on my page you'll see that it says we are supposed to serve "...as if you were serving the Lord, not men." That certainly changes things, doesn't it? If we're doing something for the Lord, don't we want to do it to the very best of our ability? Yet if we're not doing it for men, I also feel it relieves so much of the pressure! Man can be so critical of what we do and we tend to worry far too much about that criticism. However, God looks into our heart and sees our motivation. For Him we don't have to do it perfectly, all that matters to Him is that we are willing to try our best. Guess what? If we ask for His help...our best can be pretty amazing!! My third verse is just a wonderful verse! :o)

PDSS CLSC 18 CHALLENGE - Card

Since I managed to complete all my other challenges I decided I would head back on over to Posh Designs Scrapbook Store and try their Card Challenge as well. Again, all their info can be found HERE  You'll notice I don't have many cards on my blog...actually, I don't think I have ANY cards on my blog! lol Does that mean this is ANOTHER first? It's not quite that bad but it is something I have started working on! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Grid Technique

Another "new to me" technique! I don't know how Mary does it week after week! This one is for Lynn too! I just hope I did it right...but even if I didn't...I sure had lots of fun! lol I know this is not the greatest picture but it's really perfect for this set of stamps by American Crafts that I've been anxious to play with! We've always been a family that loves to play in the rain! I have much some much better pictures of my girls in their rain-suits & rubber boots packed up somewhere. However, I found this one in the "play with" pile, so I played with it! :o)

Okay...I'm throwing one more Challenge into the mix here! YAY for fun challenges!! If you're confused by the title, it's short for "Posh Designs Scrapbook Store - Card/Layout Sketch Challenge 18." They post both a card & layout sketch and you have a chance to win a wonderful prize. You can find out all the details HERE

Something A Little Different

So, here it was Saturday and I was all alone! I was feeling a little blue about this because I usually get to spend time with my husband on Saturday. What do you do when you feel blue? Why...you make a new friend! So that's exactly what I did! I made a new friend and her name is Gracie! I'd love to know what you think! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Use as many products on a layout as you can!

Okay...I've got flowers, flowers, and more flowers! lol Then I've also got buttons, bling, punch outs, rub-ons, die-cuts, border strip, border punched strip, stamp, ink, fibers, ribbon, an eyelet, brads, epoxy stickers, tag thingy with plastic puffy tag, paper, cardstock...and I think that's it! I also used my ATG, Scotch Quick Dry, Glue Dots, & some foam adhesive squares! I'd say that's quite a few products for an 8" page! :o)

Wednesday 13 October 2010

Scripture Challenge - First

How interesting that the Scripture word this time is "FIRST". I actually used my favorite "FIRST" Scripture for my "PRIORITY" Scripture Challenge! lol Of course I had no trouble at all finding more wonderful Scripture verses with "FIRST" in them! I even used two of them for my page because I couldn't decide on just one of them!
The first verse offers us fantastic advice..."First seek the counsel of the Lord." It doesn't say..."First make all your own plans and do your own thing. Then in the end, when you've made a real mess of things, check in for some advice from the Lord on how to fix everything." If we can learn to go to Him first, then we can be on the right path from the beginning, and end where we should be rather than in a mess! I, for one, do not like messes! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Content/Satisfied

Are you CONTENT? Are you SATISFIED? Are you living the life you always dreamed of...with everything going along just as you planned?  You would think a page about being content would be pretty and happy and full of flowers and fluff, right? I would think so, and that's where I was headed. However, God led me to these verses for a reason. Then as I was working on my page I was reminded of all the dear friends I've been praying for lately, so this page is for them! Life is not always easy, my friends. Sometimes the road we must travel is a rocky path that's all uphill...both ways through 10 feet of snow! haha That's a common joke around here!
These verses were written in a letter by Paul and he was in prison at the time! I know that life circumstances can sometimes feel like a prison because something has happened over which you have no control. Perhaps a family member is ill, or you yourself have gotten sick. Maybe it's unemployment or your dreams of having a family, depression, or the loss of a loved one...so many life sorrows.
Wow...to learn the secret of being content!! "I can do EVERYTHING through Him who gives me strength." Him is Jesus Christ! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Chalkboard Technique

Another brand new technique for me! Thank you for the great challenge Mary! Can't wait to see what you come up with next! :o)

Pegboard

A friend of mine wanted to see pictures of what I had done with the pegboard in my studio. I decided to post the pictures here in case someone else can find something useful in them.
I REALLY like pegboard! It was actually my husband's idea to put it up when he built my room for me. He had it up in his workshop and found it useful. I appreciated it so much that I also had him add it to my sewing room! It is a fantastic use of space! Another benefit is that although the pegboard itself is permanently affixed, nothing on it is! Everything can be moved and rearranged whenever and however you want. Reorganizing is one of my favorite things to do...so I really love that feature! A "boring" trip to the hardware store, or even Princess Auto, can turn into a jackpot haul trip for doodads for your pegboard! They have the coolest gadgets to organize and hang all your scrappy & crafty goodness! :o)

All the little red gadgets shown above came from the hardware store. Some are shelves and some have holes that are perfect for scissors & such. Even my Dremel caddy hangs perfectly on pegboard. This piece measures 45" X 46" and underneath it is a 5' countertop which will soon house my sink...YAY!!

The piece of exposed pegboard in this photo is four feet wide and 16 inches high. I got the little plastic jars in my stocking one year. They're perfect for so many things and the lids just pop into the pegboard. This is right behind another large work surface where you need things close at hand!

This turning pegboard stand is 5 1/2 feet tall. It holds a TON of product. It has 4 L-shaped sides. I used to use it for display at shows but now it's like my version of the Clip-It-Up...only it's a Peg-It-Up! Each side is reserved for one thing such as the one shown which is stamps.

Zig Zag Card

My wonderful friend Sarah is always making lots of fantastic projects! She inspired me to make this one right away! It was so much fun! Sarah's blog is called The Handmade Card Blog and you can find it right HERE
This little card is almost like a "mini" mini because you can put all kinds of goodness in it! I used many of the same supplies on this project as I did on my box project. Let me know if you have any questions! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Clustering Your Embellishments

We took a trip to the river recently and I took a bunch of pictures. The leaves were just starting to change! We're planning to continue photographing the progression of the change of colors. When all is said and done I will have the perfect photo for this layout. I'll let you all know when the picture and journaling have been added! :o)

Scripture Challenge - Priority

Did you know that the word "priority" isn't in the Bible? At least not in any version of the Bible that I have. So I thought it was an interesting choice for our Scripture Challenge. However, Patter has a great devotional all about cho0sing our priorities right HERE

Where is God in our list of priorities? Is He at the top of the list? The bottom? Does He even make the list? The truth of the matter is that if we put God first...if we make time for Him every day and live the life He has for us...there isn't anything we can't do! Philippians 4:13 says: "I can do ALL THINGS through Him who strengthens me!" In John 15:5b Jesus says: "apart from me you can do nothing!"

So for my page I chose the verse in Matthew. I added the Alleluia on the end because of the song, of course! I love to sing this song! Just to wrap things up today...guess what it says in Psalm 16:11? It says: "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with JOY in your presence..." Now there's some motivation, right? :o)

Joyful Blessings!

I have been gifted with a really lovely honor by Tracy over at http://www.iwannabuildamemory.blogspot.com/. Tracy has incredible talent and is a member of the Papercraft Star Design Team. To have been chosen by Tracy to receive this award is such a wonderful encouragement to me, and I'm truly grateful! It's also thrilling for me to be among the company of Geri and Silvia!
In acceptance of this award I am to answer two questions:
1. What is the best project I ever made?
2. I like to craft because...
Hmmm...those are tough questions! lol I have no idea what the best project I've made is...I think someone else would have to answer that one. I'm still pretty new at all of this paper-crafting business. I find as I'm working through the challenges and doing new projects, each one is a new technique or idea and it teaches me something. So they're all the best!
I like to craft because...I HAVE to craft! I've been crafting forever! As some of you know, I deal with some health and pain issues. I believe the Lord has gifted me with crafting skills as a means to help me deal with those issues. Creating brings me great JOY and distraction from the pain. My goal with this blog is to share the gratitude I have in my heart for what the Lord gifts me with daily, to be an encouragement to others, and to spread a little JOY!! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Paint the Edges

I have to say I'm really enjoying this challenge of Mary's! It's so fun to try new things and that is exactly what this challenge is doing for me week after week! I've not used acrylic paint on any of my layouts before...so here is another first! :o)
This is a picture of my youngest daughter Andrea, when she was a baby! She's holding her friend "Doggy" that her Dad bought for her on the day she was born. Andrea is now 21 and still has her dear little friend. I don't think I'll make mention of her cute little hair-do! lol Andrea and I were just discussing a young guy we saw on the street recently who had a very similar hair style! haha

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - Doodling

Yes...I know! It's a flower...AGAIN! lol However, in my defense, it's been dark and dreary here for days! We've had four inches of rain and I needed a little bit of sunshine! I had no idea what to do for this particular challenge so I took it quite literally. I got my paper and my markers...picked a happy flower picture and started doodling. This is another first for me so I hope you like it! :o)

40 Day Challenge - Day 8 - Vintage

In this case "vintage" refers to the style of the layout and not the age of the photos. These photos are only 25 years old! :o)

Box of Scrap Goodness!

Here's a super fun project I made for for my daughter Liane for her birthday. It came from Marion Smith's U-Stream class which you can find HERE It uses only two pieces of 12 X 12 double-sided paper and any embellishments you want to add.
Then when you take the lid off...the bottom opens to a 12 X 12 layout! Isn't that fun? Liane has just started her SIXTH year of university! So I filled it with quotes & images just for her! :o)

52 Week Scrapbook Challenge - 3-3-3

Another fun challenge has begun! I've got:
three colors
three scallop circle/circle combos
three baby roses
These are the first baby roses I've made and were they ever fun!

By the way, I should tell you that my daughter Liane is going to be 23 this month! Do you think she'll mind me putting these pictures up on my blog? lol I think this is when she fell in love with "mitties" too. Yes, that's what she still calls them! This is my blog Liane, and I can talk about whatever I want to, isn't that fun? :o) My daughter Andrea is in the one picture too. Her style is totally different than Liane's. The previously blogged Converse page was for her...but she's got some "special" photos coming too. I have to do something on these challenges, right? :o)
