Sushi Dolls #5 - Sushi Music Note

Happy Wednesday to all of you!
I'm back already with a new project! This time I had fun with another Sushi Doll image. I knew what I would do with this one as soon as I saw it. Those of you that follow my Hymn & Scripture Challenge posts know that I am doing an 8 1/2 " square format for my pages this year. I decided on that size because they fit perfectly into this Teresa Collins album I had. The album was from her Chic Bebe Girl collection. They weren't quite right the way they were, so I had to alter them. This sweet Sushi Music Note image just had to be used!
I have to chuckle every time I look at this image...some days it's the only way I can carry a tune! lol
I used some of the goodies I still had out on my table, including some extras of the stitched flowers I made. This time I layered them up with some smaller inked flowers. Some layers, bling and lace and it was finished. I hope you like it! Please go take a look at Susi's fabulous new March release of Sushi Dolls HERE. Sushi Music Note was from the February release and you can find her HERE too, just scroll down until you see her. Also, the links to the rest of the Design Team are in my sidebar.  If you have any questions, please let me know! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #17 - Sweet Hour of Prayer

Hello again, my friends!
I'm back with my final Challenge page for the 2012 Hymn and Scripture Challenge! I have finally caught up for last year, but come Sunday I'll be a page behind for this year! lol That means you'll probably be seeing one or two more pages very soon, so I hope you enjoy them! For 2013 Patter is continuing with the Hymn and Scripture Challenge. I'm really happy about that! However, my 8 1/2 X 11 album is FULL, so I'm going to switch it up a bit and try 8 1/2 inch square pages. Okay, on to today's page!
Sweet Hour of Prayer is a beautiful hymn!  It's all about prayer, and most of you know that is something that I love to do! I typed out all the words to the hymn so that you can read them easily. If it's too small to read, just keep clicking on the picture until it's big enough. For those of you who don't have the time or inclination to read the words I'll summarize: prayer is a wonderful thing! It's our way of communicating with God, and it's so much more. Oh, just read the words of the song because it says so much so well! :o)
Please read the Scripture verse on my page too. Another Scripture I wanted to use but didn't have room for is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Prayer is not just for asking God to do things for us, it is for praising Him and thanking Him for all His goodness to us! I could go on and on about prayer but I'll save some for the next time! lol Just remember that I pray for each one of you! :o)

Hymn & Scripture Challenge #13 - O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing

Happy Tuesday, my friends!
I'm back with one of my missed Challenge pages. After this, I have only one more left to do for 2012! :o)

This is another very familiar and favorite hymn that I love to sing! The words are beautiful and the tune is so happy! I picked a Scripture verse that relates to one of the themes that runs through the song...and that is of praising God!

There's no happier song than one that sings praises to our Lord! Although I love them all, here are some of my favorite verses:

"O for a thousand tongues to sing my great redeemers praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace!

Jesus! the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease;
'Tis music in the sinner's ears, 'tis life, and health, and peace.

To God all glory, praise and love be ever, every given,
By saints below and saints above, the church in earth and heaven."

The verse I chose is found in Psalm 104:33:

"I will sing to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live"

God is SO good! He is worthy of our praise! It's easy to remember that when things are going well for us, right? It's not always easy to think of praising God when we are suffering pain or down in the dumps. The funny thing is...when we concentrate on praising God the pain and doldrums dissipate! How wonderful is that? I hope the rest of your week us full of JOY and LAUGHTER and PRAISES to our God! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #18 - O Holy Night

Happy last day of 2012, my friends!
Hasn't this year passed quickly? I'm afraid the end of the year kind of snuck up on me...even though I knew it was coming! lol We've been so busy having happy holidays! Yesterday there was a new post from Patter concerning her plans for the Scripture Challenge in 2013. That's when I suddenly clued in that the Challenge posts were finished for this year. I have gotten a little bit behind on my pages but decided to do the last one first, and then go back and catch up with the other two. The new challenge begins on January 13th, and it will continue to be a Hymn and Scripture Challenge. I have added a button in my sidebar. Just click on the button and it will take you to all the details of the Challenge for 2013. Why not pop over to Patter's blog and take a look. It would be wonderful if you could join in!
Okay, onto my page...
O Holy Night is such a beautiful song! I based my page on the opening line "O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining" and created a night time page. I cut a bunch of stars, and used the star border punch that I got for Christmas. I wanted the entire music page included this time. To fancy it up I did an emboss resist using a Tim Holtz angel image. It's actually a beautiful iridescent emboss but I couldn't get a good photo of it. I added some Diamond Stickles to the stars and sky, and used some iridescent ribbon.
The Scripture verses are part of the familiar passage in Luke where the shepherds are watching their flock and the Angel of the Lord appears. It says:
But the Angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy
 that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you:
He is Christ the Lord."

Do you see that little three letter word in there? It says "all" the people. I love that! It doesn't matter who we are or what we've done or where we live in this great big world; a Savior was sent for ALL of us! He is Christ the Lord, and He is the reason for Christmas! I hope you all had a blessed and joyful one! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #16 - Praise to the Lord, the Almighty!

Hello, my sweet friends!
I hope you're all enjoying your weekend so far! It's still dreary and cold here with the best kind of snowfall happening. Soft and fluffy big flakes just floating around in the air...it's so pretty! I'd like to thank all of your for the lovely congratulations on my daughter's engagement, and for all the other sweet comments you've been leaving for me lately! I appreciate each one of you very much!
Today it's time for a new Hymn and Scripture Challenge page. I really LOVE this beautiful hymn, and it truly  is a long-time favorite of mine! I just had to create a red page for this one. I have always called red my "happy" color! It's also been a little while since I've done a vintage style page, so here is my happy vintage page! :o)
I've inked my song page up so much that you can't read the words but here are the first and last verse:

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
    All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!
    Let the Amen sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

One thing I know for sure about praising the Lord is that it can turn an unhappy, grumpy, pain-filled day into something else entirely! If you think about it...many of our miserable days are because we are in a selfish mood, right? We're too busy dwelling on how things are not going the way WE want them to go, or we're wondering why WE have to be sick or in pain, or we're upset because somebody hurt OUR feelings!

When we turn that selfish attitude away from ourselves and focus on praising God...something amazing happens! No longer does the day seem so miserable! In fact, it can suddenly become downright JOYFUL!! God is so good...all the time! How can we be grumpy when we concentrate on praising HIM for ALL He has done for us? My Scripture verse is found in Psalm 67:3:

"Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee!"

I must confess that I was in a particularly selfish mood yesterday, I was actually quite miserable! lol You wouldn't think it would be the best time to work on this Challenge page...but it was the perfect time! I put on some fabulous praise and worship music, and got to work with an attitude of prayer. I had a fabulous time making this page! I started with the decorative paper and just played. I wanted "praise" to be the focus. I found some chipboard letters that a friend sent me but they were the wrong color. So I peeled off the top layer and inked them up to match my page. I used the kraft packing paper that I had saved from a parcel and cut out LOTS of flowers with the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Garland die. You all know I love to make flowers! It was the first time using this die and I really like the finished flowers. The packing kraft was quite thin so I could really layer them up. When the entire page was finished I sprayed it with the Perfect Pearls mist. I was hoping that the thin kraft would curl up a bit with the wet mist, and it did!

Here is a close-up of one of the smaller flowers:

So, after all that fabulous time of singing and dancing to the worship music while I concentrated on creating a page of praise to my Lord, this girl was a HAPPY girl! I suggest you try it the next time you have a grumpy pain-filled day! It works every time! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #15 - Though Troubles Assail Us

Happy Friday!
Are you all shocked that I have another post so soon? I am! lol  I have another Hymn and Scripture Challenge page to share with you. I still had my Simon Says Stamp Card kit out on my work table, so I used the kit to make this page. After a lengthy search for the music sheet for this hymn, I did find one. I wasn't allowed to print it out though, so I improvised. I used my Stampin' Up wheel to create my own music sheet. Then I printed out all the words to the song and added that to my page. After I had done the border punch across the bottom edge of the peach piece I was wishing I had a matching corner punch. After a little bit of playing I figured out how to get a great corner punch out of my straight border punch. I made some of my favorite cherry blossom flowers, and I think that's about all I have to say about my page. Please let me know if you have any questions. :o)

Now, on to a few words about this beautiful hymn! Although I'm quite familiar with this hymn, it's not nearly as common as others we've done. I don't even have it all memorized! ;o) I'll have to work on that because the words are really beautiful and full of wisdom.  I've added an enlarged photo of the words so that you can see them clearly. My Scripture verse is large enough to read. The whole message is this.."The Lord will provide!"
As it says about God in the second half of 1 Timothy 6:17...

"...who will richly provide us with EVERYTHING for our enjoyment."

Not only does God provide us with EVERYTHING, He also provides it for our ENJOYMENT! Isn't that something? What a loving and generous God we have! So let's remember to put our HOPE in Him and not in the uncertain things of this world! As the song says..."the Lord is our power, the Lord will provide!"

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #14 - Take My Life and Let It Be

Happy Friday, my friends!
I finally have something new for you to look at! For those of you that didn't notice, I am actually skipping over the Hymn for Challenge #13 and posting #14. I thought I would go ahead and do the page that is due now rather than continue to be a page behind. Then I can go back and do #13 when I have time and be all caught up again. I WILL be doing it eventually because it's one of my FAVORITE hymns! lol Since I've just said it I won't say it again for this hymn...even though it's true! ;o)
This wonderful hymn is all about being dedicated to the service and worship of God! It speaks of offering God our life, hands, feet, voice, silver & gold, moments & days, will, and our heart. In other words giving Him EVERYTHING that we have and EVERYTHING that we are because we love Him. I see it as a beautiful love song really!
Inspired by the "love" theme, I did some fun playing with this.page. Since the hymn page was so small, there was room for both it and some additional embellishments. I used a second hymn page to cut out several hearts. In one larger heart I placed my Scripture verse which is found in 1 Corinthians 10:31. It says:

" So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God."

An assortment of punches, dies, and papers; and it came together smoothly. It's like my Valentine to the Lord! I wish you all a wonderful weekend full of JOY and BLESSINGS! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #12 - Trust and Obey

Hello, Lovelies!
First I want to thank you all for your wonderful comments on my recent posts! I sure do appreciate the encouragement you give me! I'd also like to welcome the new friends who have joined my blog recently! :o)
I'm still one page behind but I have a new Hymn and Scripture Challenge page for you! You all know the routine...yes, it's yet another one of my FAVORITE hymns? lol You can read Patter's devotional HERE.
I must confess that I had been feeling rather uninspired when it came to working on these pages. Don't get me wrong...I have never felt uninspired about the hymns or the Scriptures...just about the composition of the 8 1/2 X 11 inch pages. I gave it some thought and decided that it was the music page itself that was giving me the problem. If I put that on my page, it limits me in what else I can do. Then I realized that nobody said I have to put it on my page! lol These are familiar hymns that I know the words to, and I don't need the music for any instrumental purposes. So I have decided that I will include the entire music sheet sometimes, and at other times I will be a bit more creative with them. On these occasions I will attach the music sheet on the back of my page.
This time I chose to use the music sheet to cut out the butterfly. Then I added some tiny glass marbles in the emptly portions of the wings. I wrote the chorus of the song at the bottom of the page with a silver pen. I also included two Scripture verses; one about trust, and one about obeying.
Another verse I want to share with you is Psalm 28:7. It says:

"The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise Him."

What a comfort it is to know how trustworthy the Lord is! When we put our trust in Him, He will help us and give us the strength to obey Him and follow the path He has for us; be it smooth or bumpy! Then comes the JOY when He showers us with BLESSINGS! God is so good! Have a beautiful day! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #11 - Great Is Thy Faithfulness

* If you missed yesterday's post, scroll down and take a peek after this one! *

Happy Wednesday to you all! I did have this page ready to post last night but I decided to leave it for today instead.  I thought the shock of two posts from me in one day might be too much for you! lol This page is actually LATE. It's the first time in almost three years of these challenges that I've had a late page! I know, right? :o) You can read Patter's devotional HERE.
I did things a little bit different with this page. Rather than use the full music sheet on my page, I cut the birdhouse out of it. The bird is also cut out of the music sheet. I've got the chorus of the song on one journaling spot, and a Scripture verse on another. I posted my photo large enough that you can read them. Then I have all the verses of the song written out on a tri-fold tag that slips in behind the birdhouse. I cut a 12" paper down to the 81/2 X 11 that I'm using for this challenge. Then working with the pretty paper, I just added further embellishment with my new cherry blossom die and a leaf punch.
Yes, this is another one of my FAVORITE hymns! It's a beautiful song that reminds us of the never changing faithfulness of our God! Jobs we have, the things we own, the places we live, even the people in our lives; they all come and go. How reassuring it is to know that God is a constant with no "variableness." Another great Scripture verse that this hymn is based on can be found in Lamentations 3:22-23:

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

I find this hymn and these verses very encouraging! I pray you will as well! Have a beautiful day full of JOY! :o)
22

Below is a photo of the tag hidden behind the birdhouse.
It shows two verses and the third is on the back. It reads:

"Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!"
(I've underlined my favorite part of the song! )

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #10 - When We All Get To Heaven

Happy September Saturday, my friends!
I must tell you that I'm very excited because the Hymn and Scripture Challenge is back up and running! YAY! I hope you'll all be excited to see my pages continue. For those of you that don't know (or forget) Patter took a bit of a break from posting them as she made a big cross-country move with her family! I have really missed them, so it was happy news for me when the new one was posted! :o)
There's also a little bit of a funny story behind this one. During the days that I was working on "Jane's" tribute page, I was reminded of times in the past when I sang in the choir with both Jane and my Dad. Such sweet memories! There was one song that kept coming to my mind over and over and I sang it the entire time that I worked on Jane's page. At one point I even told God that it should really be one of the Hymn and Scripture Challenge picks. Yes, you guessed it...this is the song! Too fun, right? You also guessed right if you guessed that this is another one of my FAVORITE hymns! For those of you that are new to my blog, I have called every hymn my favorite! lol
I have sung this hymn in church as far back as I can remember. It's one of those songs that are always sung with joy and exuberance...and frequently brings on happy tears! This is the chorus:

"When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the victory!"

Isn't that beautiful? Amen! I chose verses that picked up on the rejoicing and the victory that we will have with Jesus! Please read them on my page below:

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #9 - I Surrender All

Happy Friday to you, my friends!
Guess what? With this Scripture post, I am now back on track and up to date! Thanks to Patter doing a little shift and taking a week off, I had just the time I needed! :o)
Guess what else? I'm not going to say it...no, I'm not! I'm just going to think it this time, and you all know what I'm talking about, right? lol
"I Surrender All"...What does that mean? Think about it for a minute. Are we really willing to surrender ALL to the Lord? Everything? What about our scrapbooking stash? Did your heart just stop? lol Well, you know, all of our blessings and gifts come from the Lord in the first place, don't they? Shouldn't we be more than willing to give everything up for Him?
In Luke 14:33 Jesus says:
"In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple."
James 4:7a  says:
 "Submit yourselves, then, to God."
I considered both of these verses for my page but when I read the Parable in Matthew, I knew this was the passage I would use. I've enlarged it in a picture below so you can read it better. It makes you think, doesn't it? That's what the Parables are for...to make us think! So let's think about it...and then let's be willing to do it! :o)

I created a pocket with my doily, and my hymn page is removable.
Then I covered my page with pearls in reference to the Scripture verses.

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #8 - Christ Arose

Well...my friends...I think I have a problem with repetitivity! Yes, that is a brand new word that I just made up! I do know the correct way to say it but I like this way better! :o) As always when introducing my Hymn page I want to tell you that "I really love this hymn", "these are some of my favorite Scripture verses", and "I had so much fun creating this page"! Sounds familiar, right? Yet it's all so true!
It's just wonderful when we sing this hymn in church. It is always sung with such beautiful harmony and rejoicing! It's just music music to my ears! lol
Now, I'd like to talk about my page a little bit. This page took much more time than usual to create. It's based on Matthew 28. This is when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary go to the tomb after Jesus had been crucified.  An angel of the Lord appears to them and says:
"Do not be afraid,
for I know that you are looking for Jesus,
who was crucified.
 He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.
Come and see the place where He lay.
Then go quickly and tell His disciples:
'He has risen from the dead
and is going ahead of you into Galilee.
There you will see Him.'
Now I have told you."

Can you imagine the JOY the Mary's must have felt? Overwhelming and incredible JOY!! Much like the JOY I feel when I think of all that Jesus has done for us; coming to earth and dying just to save us! :o)
For my background I used a few Prima masks and used some of my mists. Yes, I am now the happy owner of a few mists! I actually created what I envisioned as the garden scene, with bricks/stones, a garden gate, and trees. Then I covered it all up! lol I went on a bit of a flower making frenzy! Also, I had to add the Scripture verse, so I did that on a wood stamped sign post. Do you think once word got around about Jesus rising from the grave, that they posted a sign for those that came to see? :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #7 - The Love of God

Hello, my dear friends!...Do you remember me? It's been a while since I've posted...and a while since I've visited any of you, as well! I have been out of commission for a little while! Spring has always been the most difficult season for my migraines, and this Spring seems to be packing a wallop! I know that I won't be able to go back and catch up on all that I missed but I am hoping to jump in soon and start again! A big thank you to those of you who have checked up on me! I've really appreciated your concern! Hopefully the worst of it is over! :o)
It was so wonderful to be creating something again! I decided to do something "vintage-y" (is that a word? lol )  My original page was rather dark looking but this hymn and verse are so full of hope that I had to brighten it up a little bit! So I swapped in the cream cardstock and thought that did the job nicely!
Now, you probably knew without me saying it but both this hymn and Scripture verse are my FAVORITE! ;o)We sing the hymn quite often in church, and it's such a beautiful one. The third verse is my favorite and was the inspiration for my page. I wrote it out in the center but please click on the picture so you can actually read it! As for the Scripture verse...it was one that I memorized when I was a child and has always been very meaningful to me. What a comfort and a joy to know that NOTHING anywhere will EVER separate us from the INCREDIBLE love of God we have through Christ Jesus our Lord! :o)

When I got to this place in my post I headed over to YouTube to find a video. I just knew this was the one as soon as I saw/heard it! It's so full of goodness: gorgeous voices and old school harmony, the lyrics, amazing photos, and it ends with the Scripture verses I used. I think it was made to order. I hope you enjoy it! :o)

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #6 - Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us

Hello, my friends! I am finally here with my Challenge page! Can you believe I was late with this one? It was the first time ever! I'm not going to get into all the reasons why it's late...I'm just happy to be posting it!
Okay, you know I have to say it, don't you? This is one of my favorite hymns! lol For my choice of Scripture verse I pulled from the third verse of the song...
"blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, O hear us when we pray;
blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, O hear us when we pray."
What a wonderful assurance we have that God hears our prayers...not only does He hear them but He answers them...according to His will!  I love to pray, and I pray for all of you that pop in and visit me! Max Lucado says..."Prayer pushes us through life's slumps, propels us over the humps, and pulls us out of the dumps. Prayer is the oomph we need to get the answers we seek." :o)
I had fun coloring this sweet image of the praying girl. It's actually a Christmas stamp, so it was a little tricky to ink it up without getting any of the background! It's another image that reminds me of my girls when they were little...saying their bedtime prayers! I'm off to say mine now! :o)

Here's a closeup of the Scripture verse:

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #5 - May the Mind of Christ My Savior

Hello, my friends! I'm going to let you in on a little secret about my process with my Challenge pages. I don't actually look at anybody else's page or post until my page is complete...not even Patter's! However, after seeing the title of this hymn, I did have to scroll down Patter's email for further investigation, as I wasn't sure I recognized it. I clicked on the video link and after hearing the first line I realized I did know it after all...I just didn't recognize it by name. It wasn't in the hymn book I own, so I wrote the words out on my page. What beautiful words they are! Each verse is like a separate little lesson for life, and each can be supported by many different Bible verses. I chose a Scripture verse for the third verse of the hymn. Colossians 3:15 says:
  "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
since as members of one body you were called to peace.
And be thankful."
I love how the "be thankful" part is added on at the end, don't you? It's almost like it's an afterthought...yet to me, it's so random in it's location that it becomes a main focus! It's great, isn't it? So two important reminders here: to live in peace and to be thankful! :o)
This time I just created a page that looked the way the song made me feel. I used my Stampin' Up music notes wheel for the background of the song words. It's not really that evident so I thought I'd point it out! The sweet little image came from Birdie Brown. I'll put a link in my materials list. It's a simple page for a fabulous hymn and Scripture. I'm including the video that Patter used, as well. You'll find it at the end of the post. It's really lovely! Here's a link to Patter's post HERE. I hope you all have a beautiful week of JOY! :o)
